Keeper Magazine

Issue 13 - August 2004

Issue Thirteen had been missing from my collection for many years before tracking down a copy for this archive. Underground metal finds itself in an interesting place in the middle of 2004 — while most of the old heads still favor classics like Judas Priest and Queensrÿche, we begin to see bands like Unearth signed to Metal Blade and the metalcore of Atreyu seems to be taking the mall scene by storm and making the cash registers ring over at Hot Topic and opening the festivities of OzzFest.

Some of the highlights of this issue for me are the hidden Mortician lyrics (see if you can find them!), the intro about bean burritos and heroin, and the original illustration for Judas Priest. I also love seeing the live reviews for Black Holiday who were playing out a lot the summer of 2004.
